To Our Valued Vendors,
Japan Market has recently been targeted by scammers contacting our vendors with highly sophisticated and customized messages regarding vendor applications, confirmations and reservations.
These emails may include detailed information that makes them appear legitimate, and they may ask vendors to send payment by e-Transfer in order to confirm or reserve their participation.
At this time, one of the easiest ways to identify these messages is by checking the sender’s email address. However, email addresses can sometimes be disguised or easily overlooked at a quick glance, so please take a moment to verify any payment request carefully.
How to protect yourself:
- Check the “From” email address carefully. Official Japan Market emails will come from an address using the @japanmarket.ca domain. If the sender is using a different domain, the message is likely fraudulent.
- Only send e-Transfers to the Japan Market payment address shown on your official invoice. Our e-Transfer email address has not changed. Do not send payment to a different address provided in an email, even if the message appears legitimate.
- Japan Market will always send you an invoice through our accounting software when payment is required. If you receive a request for payment without an official invoice, please verify it with us before sending any funds.
- Do not rely only on the name displayed in the “From” field. Always look at the full email address before responding or making a payment.
- If anything about a message seems unusual, unexpected or urgent, verify it first. Do not use the contact email provided in the suspicious message.
- Send questions or verification requests through our official contact form: https://japanmarket.ca/contact/
If you are ever unsure about a payment request, please contact us before sending funds. We would much rather confirm a legitimate request for you than have one of our vendors become a victim of fraud.
We are also in the process of strengthening our systems and reviewing our vendor application and payment procedures. As part of this work, you may see changes to the Vendor Application process for future Japan Market events. We will communicate any updates clearly through our official channels.
Thank you for taking a few extra moments to protect yourself and our Japan Market vendor community.
