The Summer Japan Market 2026 took place on June 6-7 at the Vancouver Art Gallery North Plaza. The festivities brought the heart of downtown Vancouver to life with the sights, sounds, and flavours of a Japanese summer festival. While parts of the day had less-than-perfect weather, it didn’t dampen the energy of our guests, vendors, and entertainers! The Summer Market was packed with visitors, music, and the smell of festival food all weekend long.
This year’s Summer Market welcomed approximately 4,500 attendees, making it one of our biggest turnouts yet. Guests came out to shop, eat, and soak in the true taste of Natsu Matsuri right in the heart of the city.
Food vendors were, once again, a huge highlight. From classic summer favourites to limited-time treats, visitors had plenty of ways to satisfy their cravings while browsing the market’s lineup of hand-made and artisanal goods, and Japanese imports.
Live performances kept the vibe buzzing throughout the weekend, with a great mix of traditional and modern Japanese arts on stage.

This year, we also tried something to celebrate the beautiful game! With FIFA World Cup right around the corner, we brought in a soccer juggling contest that got the crowd cheering, with competitors competing for prizes. It was a great example of how we want to keep evolving Japan Market — not just as a marketplace, but as a community event that brings in fresh, fun ways to engage.
We’d like to thank our sponsors — Sakura Media, Umamiya, Samurice, and Soccer City — for helping make this event possible.
None of this happens without our vendors, performers, volunteers, and the community that keeps showing up. Thank you to everyone who made the Summer Japan Market 2026 such a memorable one.
We’re already looking ahead to our next event — and to bringing even more new experiences to the Japan Market series. Our next market will take place October 3-4 at the Robson Square Ice Rink. We hope to see you there!
