HATOKAI
We sell homemade bagels in Tokyo, Japan, made with 100% Hokkaido wheat “Haruyokoi” and natural yeast, with no white sugar added.
Can you share the story behind your product?
Our bagels are made without white sugar or preservatives, allowing you to fully enjoy the natural flavor of wheat.
Our shop is called HATOKAI BAGEL, a name derived from the initials of our four children. We created these bagels with the wish to make something safe and wholesome that even our children can enjoy with peace of mind.
What unique materials, techniques, or approaches do you use that set your offerings apart?
We are particular about our ingredients, using only Hokkaido wheat, cane sugar, and natural yeast. Since yeast is a living organism, we intentionally avoid following strict manuals. Instead, we carefully check each dough’s condition and bake it at its optimal fermentation point, fine-tuning the oven temperature and baking time for every batch.
Through this process, we bring out the best of each ingredient to create the finest bagels possible.
If your offerings had a personality, how would you describe them?
With a warmth like the sun and a rich flavor that evokes the vast wheat fields the moment you take a bite, our bagels embody a kind and generous spirit that gently embraces everything.
What are you most looking forward to about being part of Japan Market this season?
We hope to share our bagels with people from even more diverse backgrounds and build meaningful connections through them!
MO’s Pottery Studio
I create ceramic works in my home studio and sell them mainly at craft markets in Vancouver and the South Okanagan area. Each piece is made with care and creativity.
My passion for ceramics began with the joy of shaping clay by hand. I hand-build every piece instead of using a potter’s wheel to keep its natural, organic feel.
I carve designs into each piece, making every item truly one of a kind. Besides plates and bowls, I also handcraft teapots and coffee drippers.
My handmade ceramics are perfect as gifts for friends and family. Each piece brings warmth and a touch of artistry to everyday life.
